Recently we had an exciting day trip for several members of the Strata team, who paid a visit to our longstanding friends – Riverside SEN school in Orpington.
Director of Operations, Gordon Botten and Managing Director, Tracey Lev’y – lead a fun-filled plumbing activity morning with a six-form class at the school, as Gordon demonstrated the inner workings of a WC cistern. The workshop was designed to demonstrate practical plumbing skills to aid students to explore future employment opportunities in the plumbing trade.
We provided each student with a syphon flush unit, and took along a mock up WC cistern to aid the demonstration. We discussed the importance of hygiene and wearing gloves when working on WC’s and the pupils were shown how to strip, clean and reassemble the flush handle and syphon flush. Once complete, everyone had the opportunity to refit the unit into the WC Cistern and test that all was working as it should.
The students all enjoyed the practical workshop and asked questions afterwards about how to become a plumber, and what tools and equipment should be carried in case of an emergency call.
Strata have a longstanding relationship with the Riverside SEN school, “where every pupil is truly valued for who they are”. As part of our company promise to positively impact local communities, we have led many activity days and trips for the pupils at Riverside over the past 3.5 years, with the ultimate goal of supporting them into meaningful employment opportunities after their education.
We thoroughly enjoyed the morning and were very grateful to all the students for their participation and enthusiasm.
We would like to express our thanks to the school for hosting the event, and we very much look forward to seeing them again soon. 😊
