Employee Interview: Lin Carter – Group Administrator

This week, we sat down with Lin Carter to talk through her journey at Strata. Having been with the company for a number of years, Lin has progressed internally from her first role right through to her current position as Group Administrator, with a particular focus on ISO Support.

Be sure to check out her journey below! 👇

Can you talk us through your journey at Strata so far, from your first role to your current position of Group Administrator with a focus on ISO Support?

“I’ve been here for three years now. I started out in general admin with a focus on the building fabric side of the business, along with overseeing our subcontractor onboarding process.

From there, I joined the maintenance team, helping with PPM administration, managing emails and client queries, and coordinating with subcontractors on dates, RAMS, and method statements.

I then moved into the accounts team, where I helped roll out a new system (Xero) and supported with data migration.

After that, I moved into my current role of Group Administrator with a focus on ISO Support, getting all the documentation set up in the system, putting procedures in place with the right wording, and working towards our different certifications. It’s still ongoing, but I’ve found it really interesting.

Now working within ISO Support, can you tell us more about your role, responsibilities, and how you support the wider business?

“ISO is still new to me, so I’m learning as I go. My role involves helping with audits, sending out ISO-related communications, and supporting with staff engagement meetings. As I grow into the role, I’m taking on more of the day-to-day tasks and starting to delegate where needed.”

Can you share a challenge or new responsibility you’ve taken on and how you overcame it?

“My latest challenge has been supporting my colleagues based in Europe, establishing and setting up systems for all the guys’ mobiles and WhatsApp groups, and building a database to manage it all. I am also in charge of organising accommodation and travel for our operatives when they are working nationally in Birmingham, Edinburgh, etc and have now been given the responsibility to do the same for our Europe staff. It’s been a real challenge, as Strata has expanded and taken on the added responsibility for the Europe team, bringing new and different people to liaise with across Europe.”

Looking ahead, what are your goals for your development at Strata, and what advice would you give to others looking to build a career in Facilities Management?

“My goal is to do the best I can every day. I don’t necessarily have one fixed career path in mind; I just want to give the best service I can and keep developing.

I’ve found this industry really interesting; there’s so much variety, and every day is different. Strata is a great company to work for; everyone is given plenty of opportunity,

and I try to give back as much as I’ve been given.

My advice to others: don’t shy away from new opportunities, stay motivated, and find what keeps you engaged.  I hugely appreciated the opportunities Strata has given me to broaden by skills and continue my development in a supportive environment.  In other roles, I feel I may have been overlooked for progression but that is certainly is not the case at Strata.

I love it here.”
